Lately I’ve noticed that my eyes are becoming more like camera lenses. (Zoom, Fisheye, Prime Lenses- all of them!) Whenever I’m riding in the passenger seat of a car and have the time to just look around, I find myself taking mental pictures. Even when I’m riding my bike or enjoying a little stroll through the French Quarter, I’m observing. I’m constantly looking for color, texture, reflections, lighting and patterns. This is something that I’ve always had in the back of my mind, yet the Photography Conference that I attended last week here in NOLA triggered even more curiosity in finding these things.
The first day, I chatted with a few photographers who were from Florida, Seattle, and California. They just fell in love with the backdrops, the culture, and the vibrancy of our city. Being from New Orleans, I’ve been very fortunate to have my pick at some really amazing locations and I’m appreciative of its unique beauty. Lately I find myself day dreaming about different locations, particularly- places around New Orleans that don’t look like New Orleans. I’ll come across an over grown field, a funky old barn or a rusty pick up truck in the middle of a junky lot and I’ll just pause for a moment. I’ll imagine a model there or a couple, maybe a child…and I’ll try to picture them in that space. A good tip from one of the photography speakers was when you see one of those places, to hop out and take a picture of it or store some notes in your iphone as you come across interesting areas. I plan to start doing this – so the next time I have a senior or a couple who’s up for something totally off the wall, I’ll know where to go!
Just wanted to share a little of what I soaked in from PartnerCon.
Here’s a couple of random shots – Canon 5D Markii @ ISO6400, no flash~
