Erica & Ian :: Wedding

Ian and Erica. What can I say about these two? They are one the sweetest couples I’ve ever worked with. So calm, laid back and easy going. They live in North Carolina… do you remember their Engagement Session I just posted a few days ago? We did everything last week while they were in town. Erica is originally from here, as in River Ridge here. The same place where I grew up. There’s something about River Ridge…. everybody knows everybody. Our parents knew each other and Erica remembers meeting me around 3 years old. I was too young and don’t remember. But it’s funny how when I walked up to Ian and Erica that afternoon of their Engagement Session, she felt like an old friend.

Anyway…. so a few days later… the Wedding Day arrives. October 16, 2010. First thing Erica says when she see’s me… “OMG Look at my feet!!” (They were covered in band aids from our mishap at the Engagement shoot – those darn boots!!) They sure were cute though ;) So the wedding heels were left behind and flip flops became her wedding shoes. I said…. “At least you’ll be comfortable all night long!” So after prep, we headed out to the little courtyard at the hotel… I walked out first, then Erica and then the bridesmaids were to follow but they happened to take a couple of minutes. For those couple of minutes it was just us two standing outside the hotel room door…. I looked at Erica and said… “You okay?” I knew her feeling all too well. That was me in her shoes just 4 short months ago. As her eyes welled up… I said… “Just take a deep breathe, it’s going to fly by, just enjoy it!” There’s a certain point in the day, when the room gets silent, and you have a minute to process what’s going on. Take it all in. I’m sure that’s what Erica was feeling. That’s the same thing I felt. I’m sure it’s what every bride feels. It’s just a minute of WOAH… its happening. Tears are just a physical expression of emotion overload. In this case, it’s just a happy overload ;)

If you can’t tell already, I had a great time photographing this wedding. Loved working with Erica and Ian. Preparation was held at the Hilton Riverside, the Ceremony was on the outdoor patio of Pat O’s that overlooks the River and the Reception was right upstairs at Pat O’s on the River. They are such a unique and special couple and I’m happy to now call them friends!

Last night I got in my car when leaving bootcamp and I looked at my phone. I had a voicemail from Erica… “Jen, it’s Erica.. I just wanted to tell you again how much we love the Engagement pictures, I felt like I needed to tell you over the phone instead of an email. Everyone loves them! Can’t wait to see the Wedding pictures” It’s moments like that one that reassure me I’m doing the right thing in life. Making someone else happy is the greatest feeling. Thank you, Erica for taking the time to call me. It means a lot.

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Reardon!! :)
