Alias:Orion Show in Ocean Springs, MS

As promised, I wanted to share some photos from the little Ocean Springs trip this past weekend. We arrived up there too late on Friday to get any photos of the cute little town, maybe next time! However, I was able to snap some photos of Randy’s band alias:orion . It’s so nice to photograph something out of the ordinary, its like a new spark of energy and excitement takes over. I was reading something last week about how photographers get on a “photography high” – almost as if you’re on cloud 9 after you shoot something that you really really love. I’ve been hanging out on that cloud alot lately.

I’m always honest here and its often were you will find the REAL me. Often the good, the bad, the emotional, the happy, the loved, the grateful, etc, etc….. I blab alot about wedding planning, I hope that some of my current brides that read my blog can relate a little bit. There are days, YES it gets stressful. But its always manageable! Let me tell you, I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to certain things, so if anything- I add more stress on myself for no reason. Don’t want that to scare anyone away. I’ve gotten a few emails that have started off – “Hey Jen, I know you are super busy with Wedding planning right now, but I was interested in…” Let me apologize and I promise to turn the wedding planning down a notch! Never too busy for photography, NEVER!

Sooo, on to what I wanted to share! Photographing Randy’s band :) Here’s the thing with them, they do this as a hobby- they aren’t worried about making money, being famous or being cool. They do it for fun, they practice a couple of nights a week and do it because they love it. It’s nice to listen to them play a show. Every time Randy plays, I fall in love with a him a little more. This is one of my top 5 emotions… watching someone you love expressing themselves in a way that shows their passion, drive, and dedication. It’s a good feeling and I’m happy that I’m able to document this for them. That’s what Randy always tells me when he sees that I brought my professional camera to their shows. He tells me he appreciates that I care enough to capture their craft.

Just about every one of these shots were taken with no flash. I always shoot in Manual mode – so that means I’m able to take these without a light source, the room was almost black. I was shooting at like 6400 ISO – that is how much light your camera allows you to take in without using a flash. 6400 is very very high. In turn, it causes a bit of “grain” in the photos, a hazy effect. It’s pretty cool and it gives the pictures that extra flare that concert/band photos are used to having.

The first few shots are of them setting up, I like the movement in them.
