Some of you asked, so here it is….
We started the kitchen renovation at the end of last year and it’s just now coming to the final stages with decorating, etc… We still need cabinet knobs, but who knows- that could take another year. It’s just an afterthought! Before I moved in to Randy’s house, which is now our house – I knew the kitchen needed to be renovated. I spent too many nights helping my mom cook in the kitchen to not have a functioning kitchen after we got married and I moved in. I mean, come on! That’s what Italians do, they cook and everyone loves to hang out in the kitchen!
The process was long and loud! Lots of pounding and hammering and trips to the dump! I tried to fit in the major renovations when I knew I wasn’t going to be completely booked with weddings and photography work. I still think like that, I wait until its a good time in my schedule before I dive into another project/renovation. The bathroom will be next, if not this September, then I’ll probably hold off until next February. Slower Months
So the house we live in is old, tiny, cute and original. It’s not huge- there will be time for a big house. We’re not there yet, maybe in a few years. Until then, I’ll just keep doing one thing at a time until it feels just right :)
The first few photos look very much like you stepped into a time warp! Paneling on the walls, tiles on the ceiling, cardboard brown colored cabinets, yellow vinyl flooring, and appliances that didn’t work too well! The first step was to remove the paneling and ceiling tiles, then all the appliances and cabinets were removed and hauled to the dump, next the flooring came up which mind you was 2 layers that took 2 full days to pry up! Poor worker is all I kept thinking!
So then starts the new stuff! We re-textured the walls and ceilings. Randy’s good friend Matt with Perfectionist Painting did all the paint and trim work. We ordered cabinets from United Kitchen and Bath on Veterans. They did the cabinets and granite work. All of our stainless steel appliances came from Barto Appliance on Airline. I just got a Bramble China Cabinet from Gordon’s of Metairie, LOVE IT!! And of course if you read my blog, you recognize the kitchen table that Randy and I painted a few months ago.
Anyway, so here’s our kitchen! Hope you like the before and after pics! Since being married, we’ve spent lots of fun nights just cooking dinner, listening to music and sipping wine. My Dad’s Birthday is next week, so I’m thinking it would be a great time to REALLY break that kitchen in!
Looking back, I’m not really sure how I got through it. But as with everything, the final product is always worth the wait, right? Happy Tuesday!
Excuse all the junk laying around in the before pictures!!
